ICI-student chapter, GRIET, Hyderabad organized a one day visit to Andhra Pradesh Engineering Research Laboratories (APERL) with the support of ICI Chapter Hyderabad on 02-02-2015. Engineering is a discipline dealing with the science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems. The engineering studied in the college gives the students all the principle knowledge required about the subject. Civil engineering is such a stream that practical knowledge, observation and analysis plays a major role apart from the conventional study. It is essential for civil engineering aspirant to stay in touch with the current trends in construction and site problems. ICI students along with three faculty members visited the APER laboratories. We have reached the location by 12 noon. The laboratories are situated at 25kms away from our college. We visited three labs namely Hydraulics field laboratory, Soil mechanics laboratory and Engineering materials laboratory in two groups.
The trip to APERL has clarified many basic doubts that flutter in students mind. It helped the students to relate their academic study to practical applications. It made students to realize the importance of subjects learn in classroom. Above all, it paved way in decreasing the gap between theory and practice.
At APERL research officers Mr. Siddique and Mrs Bindu have explained about functioning of laboratories. The field visit ended at 4pm and the students reached college by 5.30pm.
